FIU Law’s Stonewall Legal Alliance played a key role in the event, conducting client interviews, drafting petition forms, and counseling clients on next steps. Stonewall Legal Alliance is an LGBTQ+ student organization at FIU Law that is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, and this event is just one recent example of their dedication to community involvement.

“We are thrilled to have been a part of this important event,” said 2L John Livingston, President of the Stonewall Legal Alliance. “As law students, we recognize the importance of providing access to legal services to underserved communities, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with TransSOCIAL and Legal Services of Greater Miami to make a real difference in the lives of transgender Floridians.”
“I am so proud of the work that we are doing here today,” said Sabrina Boukheir ‘20, Legal Director of TransSOCIAL, Inc. and former president of Stonewall Legal Alliance. “For many transgender individuals, changing their name is an important step in affirming their gender identity and living authentically. Thanks to the hard work of Stonewall Legal Alliance’s members, we were able to help many people take that important step today.”
Overall, the legal name change clinic was a tremendous success, thanks to the hard work and dedication of TransSOCIAL, Legal Services of Greater Miami, and the Stonewall Legal Alliance at FIU Law. By working together, these organizations were able to provide critical legal services to a marginalized community and make a real difference in the lives of many transgender Floridians. TransSOCIAL and Stonewall Legal Alliance plan to continue working together on legal name change clinics in the future.
