Negotiation Team

FIU Law Negotiation Team

The Negotiation Team promotes greater interest in legal negotiation through competition and provides a means for students to practice and improve their negotiation skills. At competition, students act as lawyers representing particular clients and negotiate a series of legal problems. The negotiations are based on a common set of facts known to all participants and on confidential information known only to participants representing a particular side. The Negotiation team is fun and a great way to learn skills students can use for a lifetime in practice, whether students are interested in litigation or in transactional work.

The Negotiation Team is composed of 2L, 3L, and 4L students who are chosen based on their performance in an intramural competition. The Negotiation Team participates in and has consistently placed among the top teams in the ABA National Negotiation Competition. The team has competed in transactional competitions as well, and competed in the International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris for the first time in 2015. The Negotiation Team continues to expand the number of competition it participates in.
