Professor Carpenter recently taught at three death penalty conferences, to include organizing and executing one of the conferences. The conferences focused on a particular method of voir dire used by defense counsel in capital litigation that is based on social and cognitive psychology principles. The first conference took place at the University of Colorado Law School on May 12-14, 2022, and was hosted by the National College of Capital Voir Dire. The second was organized by Professor Carpenter on behalf of the Florida Public Defender Association and took place in Safety Harbor, FL, on June 6-8, 2022. The third was hosted by the Arizona Public Defender Association in Tempe, AZ, on June 20-22, 2022. All told, the conferences trained over 200 public and private defenders on the method.
