Congratulations to our FIU Law Negotiation & Mediation Team of Leydi Arboleda (2L) and Yanina Onyewenjo (3L) (Alternate, Jorge Yegres (2L)), who finished the ABA National Negotiation Competition Finals ranked among the top 8 in the nation, from a field of over 200 teams from 75 U.S. and Canadian law schools.  The 2022 ABA National Negotiation Finals marks the 8th time in the past 11 years that FIU Law has had at least one team in the national finals.

Leydi and Yanina were the ABA Chicago Regional Negotiation Competition Co-Champions last November, which allowed them to move on to compete at the ABA National Negotiation Competition. In winning the Regional, Leydi and Yanina won three consecutive rounds. They continued their winning streak by winning both Preliminary Rounds, taking all 6 judges’ ballots, and advancing to the quarterfinals ranked number one our of the 22 teams in the final rounds.  Unfortunately, despite their 5-0 record heading into the quarterfinals, the team dropped a 2-1 decision to Mercer in the quarterfinal round.  The quarterfinals featured teams from top negotiation competition schools such as Boston, Fordham, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Mercer, and Tulane.

The FIU Negotiation & Mediation Team (NAMT) would like to give special thanks to member Lauren Reynolds (2L), who played the role of opposing counsel and helped the team with extensive research, and thanks as well to the other members of the NAMT who assisted with practices by playing the role of opposing counsel: Noble Masters (2L), Isaac Glener (2L), Stephanie Capón (3L), Abegay Taylor (2L), Raphael Marjenberg (2L), Jameesha Rock (2L), Brian Antigua (2L), Akin Adejunmobi (3L), Karla Rivas (2L), Daniel Gonzalez (2L), and Brittani Burkes (2L).
