On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, the students enrolled in the US Law I Course (all of whom are 2022 LL.M. candidates) attended oral arguments (“OA’s”) before a panel of Judges from Florida’s 3rd DCA comprised of Judges Kevin Emas, Norma Lindsey, and Monica Gordo (collectively, the “Judges”). At the conclusion of the OA’s, the students participated in what was for them an unheard of opportunity to engage in a Question & Answer session with Judges (“Q&A Session”), and afterwards attended a luncheon with the Judges, Dean Page, and Professor Pittaluga (the instructor of the US Law I Course) at the FIU Faculty Club.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the students enrolled in the US Law I Course have attended OA’s before the 3rd DCA, participated in a Q&A Session and attended a luncheon with a panel of Judges from the 3rd DCA. The US Law I Students’ attending the OA’s, participating in the Q&A and a luncheon with the Judges was the brainchild of the 3rd DCA’s Chief Judge-Elect,  Thomas Logue, and Professor Pittaluga. As Judge Kevin Emas (one of the Judges on this year’s panel) wrote:

“Thanks so very much for another wonderful opportunity to collaborate with your LLM students.  As always, they were well-prepared for the oral arguments and fully engaged during the Q& A session.  Perhaps best of all, each had their own interesting journey to share with us during lunch.  This is my third year participating, and it’s clear that Judge Logue and Professor Pittaluga have developed this program into what should become a permanent annual event at the Third District.”

The Faculty, Administration, and the US Law I Students thank Judges Emas, Lindsey, and Gordo for their time and courtesies this year, and especially appreciative to Chief Judge-Elect Thomas Logues, all of the Judges and staff at the 3rd DCA for their longstanding and continued support of the FIU College of Law and the Law School’s International Studies and Graduate Program. With the continued support of the FIU College of Law and the Law School’s International Studies and Graduate Program, Professor Pittaluga has every intention of continuing this collaboration with the 3rd DCA and making it not only a permanent Annual Event at the 3rd DCA, but a permanent module within the US Law I curriculum.
