Each year, Florida International University’s Faculty Senate recognizes outstanding faculty and staff during its annual Faculty Convocation Awards Ceremony. This year, FIU Law Library’s Assistant Director & Foreign and International Law Librarian Marisol Florén-Romero received the Excellence in Librarianship award.  The award recognizes excellence in library services.

Since 2005, Florén-Romero has served as the International Reference Librarian.

“As the International Reference Librarian Marisol has demonstrated outstanding talent to conduct research and locate legal scholarship – no matter how elusive the text or materials,” Interim Law Library Director Lisa Davis shared. “She is eager to assist our faculty on individual projects  as well as to participate in the university’s development. Although her title as International Reference Librarian indicates that her specialty is investigating information pertaining to foreign and international law, she has also provided excellent assistance to faculty and students researching U.S. state and federal laws.”

In 2011, Floren-Romero began began the task of digitizing special foreign law collections and providing open access to this content through Law Library’s Digital Collections and the Digital Library of the Caribbean.
