FIU Law hosted the 2nd Junior Intellectual Property Scholars Association (“JIPSA”) Workshop at the end of January. JIPSA, which is initiative of founding co-chairs, Professors Judd (Washburn) and Osei-Tutu (FIU), has more than fifty members from law schools across the country. In addition to the small group workshops, JIPSA has hosted informal junior scholar dinners at large intellectual property meetings, and has organized online paper exchanges for its members.

The JIPSA workshop provides an opportunity for young intellectual property scholars to connect with one another and to engage in scholarly exchange in a small group setting.  The workshop commenced on Friday afternoon with Dean Acosta welcoming the group to FIU Law and to Miami.  The participants provided one another with constructive comments on written drafts and early stage projects over the course of several hours.

This successful event concluded on Saturday afternoon with a feedback and planning session during which the participants suggested having more frequent JIPSA workshops.  Following the January FIU workshop, the University of New Hampshire  volunteered to host a 2016 summer JIPSA workshop. Ohio State University will host a JIPSA workshop in 2017.

JIPSA thanks the FIU College of Law, and Dean Acosta for the support that helped to make this academic workshop a success.
