A handful of lucky law students from Professor Juan Carlos Gómez’ Immigration Clinic had the privilege of being part of a select group of audience members during President Obama’s Town Hall meeting. The meeting was held on Wednesday, February 25 at FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus and was organized by Telemundo and MSNBC. The broadcast was hosted by anchor Jose Diaz- Balart – the Diaz-Balart family was instrumental in the development of FIU Law and the law school building bears the family name.

President Obama was in town to discuss his immigration reform plan and answer questions. The eight students participate in the Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic. The Clinic assists individuals seeking asylum because of political persecution, relief under country-specific immigration legislation and immigrant worker’s victims of wage theft. Under the supervision of Professor Gómez, the students have the opportunity to learn about the law through real-life experiences.
