Commencement Class Speakers, Alumni Rep and Hooding Committee Nominations

All graduating students will have the opportunity to nominate a class speaker and two alumni reps from their division. Students can also nominate two professors that will be hooding during Commencement. The nominations will take place in the RDB Student Lounge between 12:00pm-2:00pm or between 5:00pm-7:00pm at the above mentioned dates.

Tuesday, March 27, 2012 through Friday, April 13, 2012
Graduation Tickets Online Sale
All Graduates will receive two (2) complementary tickets and can purchase up to eight (8) additional tickets at $5.00 each.

Please follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to my.fiu.edu with your Panther ID and password
  2. Once you are logged in your Student Center, look for the “Academics” section
  3. Under “Academics”, look for the drop down menu reading “Other Academics”; select “Commencement Ordering”; and click >>
  4. Select your Academic program: Law Juris Doctor
  5. Follow the directions on the screen to complete your order

Graduate Send-Off / Commencement Fair
FIU Bookstore, Second Floor, at the Graham Center Building
Pay and pick up your Regalia on April 11, 2012, between 12:00pm-2:00pm or between 5:00pm-7:00pm. Checks should be made payable to: FIU Bookstore, in the amount of $99.99. Regalia includes: Cap, Gown, Hood and Tassel. Hoods will be given to you at Commencement. You will have the opportunity for a FREE studio picture on you regalia, courtesy of GradImages® and you will be able to order your graduation ring and announcement from Herff Jones Inc.

Commencement Ceremony

Location:        U.S. Century Bank Arena
9:00am           Graduates arrive to the Arena, Room 220. Use the SE-Gate 2 Entrance. COL Staff will be there to assist you. Continental breakfast will be served.
9:00am           Doors open at the U.S. Century Bank Arena for guest seating
09:40am         Graduates line up for processional
10:00am         Commencement Ceremony begins
12:00pm         Commencement Ceremony ends (followed by post-commencement reception at RDB Atrium)

PRE-COMMENCEMENT CHECKLIST:

  • Pay and pick up your Regalia on April 11, 2012, between 12:00pm-2:00pm or between 5:00pm-7:00pm at the FIU Bookstore, Second Floor, Graham Center Building.
  • Complete your employment survey by visiting the Career Services Office (RDB 1066) or online through Symplicity (Select the NALP tab.)
  • Order your graduation tickets online between Tuesday, March 27, 2012 and Friday, April 13, 2012.

  • If you rented a locker, please empty it by Friday, May 18, 2012. Remove all personal locks, if any on the locker.

TICKETS AND GUESTS

The commencement ceremony is a ticketed event. All guests (including children of all ages) must present a ticket to enter into the Arena. Doors will open at 09:00am and seating is first-come, first-served. Each student will receive two (2) complimentary tickets and may purchase up to eight (8) additional tickets at $5.00 each. Guest tickets can be purchased online between Tuesday, March 27, 2012 and Friday, April 13, 2012.

SPECIAL ASSISTANCE

Should you or any guests need special assistance for attending this event, please contact Virginie Illescas at the Grad Send Off on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 or by email at villesca@fiu.edu. Please note that a request must be made in order to make appropriate accommodations for those requiring special assistance. Upon entering the U.S. Century Bank Arena, persons requesting assistance must identify themselves to an usher. An escort will take you to your reserved seating.
NOTE: Requests for special assistance seating must be made by Friday, May 18, 2012.

DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING

A sign language interpreter will be available at Commencement. If you wish to sit close to the interpreter at the ceremony, please contact Virginie Illescas at the Grad Send Off on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 or by email at villesca@fiu.edu to make the necessary arrangements.
NOTE: Requests for special assistance seating must be made by Friday, May 18, 2012.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Public Safety will provide overall security and traffic direction on Commencement day. In the event of an emergency, please contact FIU Public Safety at 305-348-2626.

REGALIA

Regalia will be available for pickup on Grad Send-Off day, Wednesday, April 11, 2012, from 12:00pm-2:00pm and from 5:00pm-7:00pm on the second floor of the Bookstore in the Graham Center

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Graduation announcements can be ordered through the Herff-Jones website.

PARKING

Students and their guests are asked to park at the Panther Garage. The U.S. Century Bank Arena is the blue building directly across from the parking garage.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

  • Take the Florida Turnpike
  • Exit on Tamiami Trail (SW 8th Street)
  • Take 8th Street (East)
  • Follow SW 8th Street and make a right onto 112th Avenue
  • At the stop sign make a right and continue driving until you come upon the Panther Garage on your right hand side. (Beige and Pink Parking Structure)
  • You may park in any white unmarked or metered parking space.
  • The commencement ceremony will take place in the U.S. Century Bank Arena (Blue building directly across from the Parking Garage)
  • Please use the main entrance of the U.S. Century Bank Arena.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Guests are welcomed to take photographs during the processional and ceremony as long as they do not block the aisles. Each graduating student will have his/her photo taken by GradImages® three times during the ceremony. On the day of the ceremony, each student will receive their previously completed name card. Graduates carry this name card to the ceremony and during the ceremony hand it to the announcer. After the ceremony, the cards are given to GradImages® photographers. GradImages® will mail each graduate their proofs within 4 days of the ceremony.

FLOWERS

Afrodita’s Garden will offer bouquets, flowers and other commencement items for guests to purchase at the U.S. Century Bank Arena. Prices range from $10.00 to $30.00.

DIPLOMAS

At the commencement ceremony, graduates will receive a ceremonial certificate in lieu of an actual diploma. Approximately 3 months after your graduation date, you may obtain your diploma at the College of Law Registrar’s Office, RDB Hall 2018.

FLORIDA BAR EXAM INFORMATION

The College of Law will provide lunch to our students sitting for the bar exam. Detailed information will follow as we get closer to administration date.
