On Friday, October 16, 2020, FIU Law Professor and Member of the UN International Law Commission Dr. Charles C. Jalloh spoke on a panel entitled “Legal Implications of Pandemics: A Ten-Month Assessment”. The other panelists were four other members of the International Law Commission and the ambassadors of the convening states. The panelists examined various legal gaps evident from the COVID-19 pandemic and provided initial reflections on the role of international law in strengthening global cooperation with the view to addressing future pandemics. Many legal experts accredited to the UN General Assembly’s Sixth (Legal) Committee attended the meeting which was chaired by Ambassador Milenko Skoknic of Chile, the current chair of the Sixth Committee. The event was co-convened by the Permanent Missions of Chile, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Turkey and Vietnam to the United Nations.
