The FIU Law Trial Advocacy Program recently hosted the Miami Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) to present Why Civility Matters to a packed small courtroom of engaged students.
Part of the Trial Advocacy Program’s “Pizza & Professionalism” Lunch ’n Learn series, Why Civility Matters featured ABOTA attorneys David W. Grossman, Partner at Simon, Reed & Salazar, and Raymond V. Miller, Shareholder at Gunster Yoakley & Stewart, who spoke about the importance — and challenges — of maintaining ethics, civility, and professionalism in the highly incentivized “real world” of civil and criminal litigation.
“In court and out, it is critical that our students ‘get it’ – and they do ‘get it,’” said Professor H. Scott Fingerhut, Assistant Director of the Trial Advocacy Program. “There is an honorable way to fight, and a right way to win,” Fingerhut continued, “all part of Founding Director H.T. Smith’s program polestar of ‘passionate principled advocacy.’”
ABOTA is a prominent supporter of the Trial Advocacy Program and aims to educate and train trial lawyers, preserve our jury system, and elevate the standard of integrity, honor, and courtesy in the legal profession.
