Professor Joelle Moreno’s law review article, What Happens When Dirty Harry Becomes an (Expert) Witness for the Prosecution?, 79 Tul. L. Rev. 1 (2004), was just cited by the Federal District Court of New Mexico in US v. Baca (2018). In Baca, the court agreed with Professor Moreno that because law enforcement officers’ expert testimony is often based on on-the-job experience, it “can be easy for an experience-based expert witness to pass off suspicion, speculation, and intuition as real expertise.”
Professor Moreno is FIU Law’s first Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Development, supporting the development of the faculty as scholars and teachers.
