Project for representation of a juvenile in the Third District Court of Appeal of Florida
The Office of Externship and Pro Bono has an opening for two 3L students to work with appellate attorney Karen Gottlieb of the Florida Center for Capital Representation at FIU  Law. This placement will involve the reading of a trial transcript of a juvenile case from the Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office that was tried in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit and is on appeal to the Third District Court of Appeal. This placement can be done for up to 4 academic credits and two semesters depending on student qualifications.
The student will:
  • Read the transcript and prepare the appellate briefs.
  • Will present oral argument in the Third District Court.

Qualifications:
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Moot Court or Appellate Procedure Training.
  • The student will need to be certified legal intern which requires clearance from the Florida Bar.
  • 48 credit hours.
