FIU Law Path (Pre-law Program)

About

Spring 2019, Florida International University College of Law was awarded a $124,850 grant by the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence and launched a new pre-law initiative, the Path to the Legal Profession (“FIU Law Path”).  FIU Law Path offers to undergraduates, pre-law programming that builds skills critical to both success in law school and throughout the application to law school process. FIU Law Path combines exposure to the traditional law school experience supplemented by a range of opportunities including academic enrichment and critical skills development, intensive LSAT preparation, personalized counseling throughout the application process, and individualized mentoring by a member of the bench or bar.

To date, FIU Law Path has enrolled five cohorts of students. This program is offered at no cost to accepted students.

Program

FIU Law Path Summer '25 (Online)

FIU Law Path offers to undergraduates, pre-law programming that builds skills critical to both success in law school and throughout the application to law school process. Admitted FIU Law Path Scholars will participate in an online program offering two components:

1) Introduction to law school courses taught by FIU Law faculty; and

2) An intensive (free) 6-week LSAT preparatory class with the goal of sitting for fall ’25 LSAT testing. Additionally, students receive personalized counseling throughout the application to law school process as well as mentoring from members of the bench and bar.

Dates: May 12 – July 11, 2025

Eligibility: Rising Senior, completion of at least 85 credits by June 2025 or university graduate.

GPA: 3.00 Minimum Cumulative Undergraduate Grade Point Average

Application

Complete and submit the following materials:

  4. Most recent undergraduate official transcript
  5. Personal statement explaining interest in FIU Law Path - In no more than three typed, double-spaced pages discuss your reasons for pursuing a legal education and your goals or future plans upon graduation. You may discuss any obstacles that you have overcome (for example, English is not your native language, discrimination, economic or family hardship, severe medical condition, etc.).
  6. A copy of your most recent Student Aid Report (SAR)
  7. Register for the free LawHub: https://www.lsac.org/lsat/prep/lawhub. Complete LSAT PrepTest 140, under prescribed, timed conditions). Submit your score based on the 120 – 180 scale.

Information for Applicants with Disabilities

The FIU Law Path Program is committed to providing opportunities to diverse students.  Our program works closes with the university’s Disability Resource Center (“DRC”).  This office is responsible for providing students with disabilities, the necessary support to successfully complete their education and participate in activities and programming available to all students.

Procedure

Upon acceptance to the FIU Law Path program, once notified of a request for accommodations, the Senior Associate Dean will connect you with the DRC.

Implementation is a key factor in the provision of effective accommodations, supporting students. Early registration as a Law Path Scholar with the DRC is highly recommended. Please note that how accommodations are implemented may vary in some of the professional programs offered by the FIU College of Law.

Documentation

Students who are requesting support services are required to submit documentation to verify eligibility under the American Disability Act of 1990. The documentation must include medical or psychological information from a certified professional. When Ready, please call the DRC at 305-348-3532 to setup a Welcome Appointment. Complete guidelines for the type of documentation required are available on the DRC website or upon request.

LSAT/GRE Exam Accommodations

You may be entitled to accommodations on the LSAT or GRE. This can range from extra time for a learning disability or an adaptation for a physical disability.  FIU Law Path and the DRC can assist with the process of requesting appropriate testing accommodations.
