Biography

Mary Lawson is an Assistant Attorney for the School Board of Miami-Dade County and held a similar role for the Broward County School Board. Her law practice has focused on Education Policy Development, Disability Law, Mental Health, Title IX, Student Discipline, FERPA, Charter Schools, Governance, and Academics, encompassing both K-12 and Adult Education programs. She was among the first class of lawyers to obtain the Florida Bar designation of Board-Certified Specialist in Education Law. Ms. Lawson began her law practice at Hogan & Harston, a top 100 international law firm in Washington D.C. She attended Howard Law School, where she served on the Executive Board of the Howard Law Journal and was a Dean’s Fellow for Legal Research and Writing. She was an intern for the Honorable Brook Hedge of the District of Columbia Superior Court and a Coordinator for the Justice Harry A. Blackmun Summer Law College for Teens. Ms. Lawson attended public school near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a middle and high school Social Studies teacher in three states, including Florida.
