Established in 2010, the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities has sought to analyze and devise solutions regarding the key legal issues affecting the Hispanic community and address key issues, such as: voting rights, immigration, civil rights and access to the courts. In August 2015, ABA President Paulette Brown named FIU Law Dean R. Alexander Acosta chair of the commission.

“I look forward to working with my fellow Commission members to address issues that greatly impact the Hispanic community,” Acosta said. “We will work with other entities, both inside and outside of the ABA, to encourage dialogue within the legal profession about how the growth of this particular community continues to impact the changing role of lawyers, courts and other legal institutions.”
