FIU Law has earned an A+ rating in preLaw magazine’s 2019 Most Diverse Law Schools rankings. The rankings, unveiled in the publication’s Winter 2019 issue, recognized FIU Law as one of the twenty most diverse law schools in the nation.
“I am delighted to see FIU Law recognized for its demonstrated commitment to diversity,” said Dean Antony Page. “Diversity and inclusion is particularly important at law schools, because law is a profession that should advance the interests of all of society’s members. We strive to be a community where our collective experiences lead to more fruitful discussions about how lawyers can more effectively meet present and future challenges.”
The College continues to make good on its commitment to fostering an inclusive, globally minded legal community. In October 2018, the FIU Law Review hosted leading scholars and practitioners from around the world for The Role and Contributions of the International Law Commission to the Development of International Law, a symposium celebrating the Commission’s 70th anniversary and analyzing its continuing role in the development and codification of international law. That symposium followed April 2018’s Summit on the Future of Legal Education and Entry to the Profession, which united leaders from throughout the national legal community explore how to best align the legal education and training pipeline with the practice of law, the latter of which is undergoing significant changes due to globalization, technological advances, and related pressures.
The A+ diversity ranking from preLaw follows the FIU Law’s #6 national ranking for student body diversity in U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 best law school rankings. The preLaw grades “are based on how well each school matches with the U.S. average for each minority population,” according to the publication. Student body populations are compared across five different racial and ethnic categories, while faculty composition is evaluated against the overall minority population.
