Judges, attorneys, community members, and law students gathered at FIU Law in the ceremonial courtroom for the FIU Law Review fall symposium, New Approaches & Challenges to Reproductive Justice on November 4, 2016.
FIU Law Professor Cyra Akila Choudhury, faculty symposium organizer, invited reproductive rights experts—legal scholars, attorneys, and advocates—from around the world to FIU Law to participate in a lively intellectual discussion about the intersection of reproductive rights and the law. Khiara Bridges, Boston University Law Professor, delivered the keynote address. The remaining experts were featured on four different panels: Reproductive Justice Jurisprudence, The Role of Science in Reproductive Rights, Assisted and Collaborative Reproduction Representation, and Reproductive Justice Activism.
FIU Law Dean R. Alexander Acosta acknowledged, “These symposia are wonderful opportunities to showcase the excellence of FIU Law to prominent scholars from all over the nation and the local legal community. This is exactly what the FIU Law Review accomplished with the New Approaches & Challenges to Reproductive Justice Symposium.”
“I had the pleasure of working with Professor Choudhury, our Executive Symposium Editor, Helen Sayers, and our law review members. Together, we worked diligently to ensure that our symposium was a success. The speakers, aside from being experts in their field, could not have been kinder, and I am so glad they were able to join us at FIU Law to discuss reproductive rights,” FIU Law Review Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Sikowitz shared.
FIU Law Review organizes symposia and publishes two issues annually. The proceedings of New Approaches & Challenges to Reproductive Justice can be viewed online. FIU Law Review is an online open-access publication, part of the Digital Commons Law Review Commons network.
