On Saturday, November 7, 2015, the FIU Law Clinic will host Honoring Dannette: A Domestic Violence Awareness Breakfast in memory of FIU Law student Dannette Willory who was shot and killed by her longtime boyfriend on April 1, 2011. The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., in the Rafael Diaz-Balart Hall’s Grand Reading Room, which is located on the third floor of the Law Library.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet and hear from FIU Law faculty, administrators, students and community organizers who support the Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic’s Dannette Willory Access to Justice for Victims of Domestic Violence Project.
The Dannette Willory Access to Justice for Victims of Domestic Violence Project is made possible by the Miami-Dade State Attorney Office’s Denise Moon Grant through The Miami Foundation. Since early this summer, the Project has provided domestic violence victims with education and empowerment through free counseling, legal consultation and representation. On staff are two senior attorneys and one associate attorney who direct, supervise and train FIU Law students in how to work with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
The event is open to the public, but seating is limited. To RSVP, email Zoraya Ledesma at ledesmaz@fiu.edu.
