On May 6, 2015 the main Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste featured the visit of Marisol Florén, Assistant Director for Research Services and Foreign and International Law Librarian at FIU College of Law Library, to the Center for Research and Legal Information (CRIJ) in Haiti. The CRIJ is a non-profit organization established in May 2002 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to encourage and promote scientific research in the legal field, provide open access to Haitian legal information through its portal, Haiti Justice, and contribute to the practice of law and development of the legal system in Haiti.
The reason for Dr. Florén’s trip to Haiti was to visit bookstores, law libraries and legal institutions and establish institutional relations in the country to facilitate access to legal information and resources on Haitian law to support FIU’s legal scholarship and academic programs.
During her stay, she had the opportunity to visit the libraries of the Supreme Court of Justice, the School of Magistrates, the Library and Documentation Center of the Haitian Parliament, the National Library, the library of the Law School of the University of Haiti, the Haitian Bar Association and the bookstore Le Pléiade, one of the most important bookstores in Port-au-Prince for the acquisition of legal materials.
