Appointed by the Chief Justice, Professor Norberg has served since 2022 on the Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. The Advisory Committee studies and makes recommendations to the Supreme Court regarding proposed changes to the Bankruptcy Rules.
From 2011 to 2014, Professor Norberg was Deputy Managing Director of the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, which is responsible for the accreditation of U.S. law schools. He has served on various committees of the Section, including the Standards Review Committee and the Data Policy and Collection Committee. He has been a member of or chaired over 25 ABA accreditation site visit teams and special fact-finding missions.
As the founding Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the FIU College of Law from 2001-2005, Professor Norberg was primarily responsible for development of the academic program and ABA accreditation matters.
Before coming to FIU in 2001, Professor Norberg taught at the University of California College of Law, San Francisco (formerly Hastings College of Law); the University of North Carolina School of Law; and the Mississippi College School of Law, where he also served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Before entering the academy, he practiced commercial litigation at the Troutman Sanders (now Troutman Pepper) firm in Atlanta, Georgia. He obtained both his B.A. (in English) and J.D. (with honors) from the University of North Carolina. As an undergraduate, he was elected Student Body President and received the University’s highest award for leadership and service. His law school honors include the North Carolina Law Review and Order of the Coif.
