Concerns, Complaints and Reporting

Students at the College of Law have several avenues available to report academic, social, behavioral or other concerns to officials at the law school and Florida International University. Students are encouraged to read the descriptions below and to use the reporting mechanism that best fits the nature of their concern.

Academic Forms

  • FIU Law Student Petition

    Your student portal lets you access the general law school academic petition in the Registrar menu in the Student Tools section. You can use the academic petition to request overloads, underloads, transfers between the part-time and full-time programs, withdrawal from a course or the university, a leave of absence, and other important matters requiring the approval of the Dean’s Office.

  • Academic Grievances

    Students with an academic grievance may bring a formal complaint with the University against a faculty member, committee, or department chair.

  • University Student Petition

    In certain situations, students who have experienced extenuating circumstances as defined by the Florida Board of Governors may request the removal of a grade or course from their transcript.

  • Student Conduct and Honor Code

    Use the provided form to report academic misconduct, Honor Code violations, or other forms of student misconduct.

Safety and Compliance Forms

  • Health and Safety Violations

    Use the provided form to report hazards, safety concerns, and issues that could pose a threat to the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff.

  • Student of Concern

    Contact the University’s Dean of Students to report someone whom you think may be struggling physically or psychologically, or exhibiting other behaviors of concern to be addressed by the Dean of Students Office.

  • Complaints Implicating Compliance with ABA Standards

    If you are aware of a problem or situation that may implicate the law school’s compliance with an ABA Standard, please send an email titled “ABA Standards Complaint.” Your email should identify and describe the problem or situation that you believe implicates the Standard. You will receive confirmation that your email has been received.

  • Contacting the Dean’s Office

    Students who wish to request a meeting with the Dean or a Vice Dean should complete the form. Please include enough explanatory detail to ensure that the request is directed to the appropriate administrator.

Criminal and Harassment Complaint Forms

  • Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation

    Use the provided form to report potential violations involving discrimination or harassment based on race, color, sex, pregnancy, religion, age, disability, national origin, marital status, and veteran status.

  • Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct

    Use the provided form to report any form of non-consensual sexual activity and unwelcome sexual conduct, including the following: sexual assault or coercion, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, non-consensual touching, stalking, or violence based on sexual orientation.

  • Whistleblower, Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Financial Mismanagement

    Use the provided form to report known or reasonably based suspected incidents of fraud, waste, abuse, or financial mismanagement, as well as whistleblower complaints.

  • Silent Witness to Law Enforcement

    Fill out our form to notify the Florida International University Police Department (FIUPD) of incidents that you feel warrant a police response but are not critical in nature.

  • FIU Police Misconduct

    Fill out our form to report any potential misconduct involving FIU Police employees.

  • Ethical Panther

    If you witness or suspect ethical violations, compliance issues, other forms of misconduct, or other concerns that you would like to share, you can file a report.

Students who wish to report other concerns should consult the University’s main reporting platform.
