This year, FIU Law had two teams compete in the E. Earle Zehmer National Moot Court Competition: Team 7 and Team 22. Tori Reece and Jada Scott served as Team 22’s orators, along with Renée Sealy as the brief writer. Team 7 included Callie Moore and Scott Paula as the orators, and Jorge Herrera as the brief writer. The preliminary and sweet sixteen rounds were held via Zoom on July 31, 2026. Out of 28 teams from across the country, Team 7 advanced to the quarterfinals, which were held in Orlando, FL. on August 23, 2026.
The team delivered an incredible argument in the quarterfinals at the 80th Annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference and 37th Safety & Health Conference. While they didn’t advance, the judges praised them for their well-organized, creative, and powerful argument. The Zehmer teams have been coached by alumna MaryGrace Longoria since 2024 , who returned to mentor students after her own time at FIU Law. Notably, Marygrace and fellow alumna Adrienne Kanter earned the Best Brief Award at the E. Earle Zehmer National Moot Court Competition in 2022.
