FIU Law places first in NCAA Infractions Competition

On February 21-22, 2025, two FIU Law teams participated in the National College Athletics Infractions Hearing Competition hosted by the University of Iowa. This annual event challenges over 60 students to work on teams to develop and sharpen their oral and written advocacy skills through an athletics lens by taking turns advocating as NCAA enforcement staff and as defense counsel for a school accused of committing NCAA infractions.

Both teams, coached by Assistant Professor Margaret Correoso the faculty advisor for SEFA, represented our institution with distinction and made a strong impression on the judges, who were experts in sports law, college athletics, and compliance. Ultimately, one of the Teams emerged victorious, claiming first place in the mock hearing competition. Competing against 22 teams from 13 Law Schools across the country, this victory is especially remarkable for FIU in its first year of participation. Congratulations to the students of the winning Team, all members of SEFA— Jasmine Martin, Jose Garces, and Thomas Bilello — for their outstanding achievement, and to the second Team— Ana Molto, Dalen Hutchison, and David Wilson —for their impressive performance and hard work.
