Biography
Manuel A. Gómez is a Professor of Law, the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Global Engagement and the founding director of the Master of Science in the Law of Technology at Florida International University College of Law. He focuses in international arbitration, comparative complex litigation, the globalization of the legal profession and legal education, and international law with focus on the US and Latin America. He is the Chair-Elect of the Miami International Arbitration Society (MIAS), co-leads the Law School Liaison Committee of the International Law Section (ILS) of the Florida Bar, serves as the leader of the Latin America & Caribbean Group of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (SVAMC), and co-chairs the Innovation and Future Readiness Committee of the Financial & International Business Association (FIBA). Professor Gómez holds masters and doctoral degrees from Stanford University School of Law, and a law degree (cum laude) and a specialization in procedural law from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Venezuela).
Professor Gómez is the Editor-in-Chief of the World Arbitration and Mediation Review (WAMR); he serves on the Editorial Board of the The International Journal of Arbitration, Mediation and Dispute Management, and the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Risk Regulation (EJRR). Professor Gómez is the author, editor or co-editor of numerous publications in the field of dispute resolution and governance, private ordering, international and comparative law, and the globalization of the legal profession.
Professor Gómez has taught and lectured extensively through the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. He has published works on topics related to private ordering, the globalization of the legal profession, transnational litigation, comparative class actions, international arbitration and consumer protection in Latin America; and his scholarship has earned wide recognition and accolades.
