FIU’s Study Abroad in Seville provides an excellent opportunity for you to earn six credits, while also expanding your knowledge of comparative and international legal issues as they pertain to Spain and the rest of Europe and experiencing the marvelous history and vibrant culture of Seville.

The academic component of this program is governed by the rules of FIU Law and the American Bar Association (ABA). Classes will be offered at the University of Seville Law School in a convenient schedule that allows the students to explore the surroundings of the magnificent city of Seville and travel throughout Spain and the rest of Europe.

The program will include lectures by University of Seville professors, as well as guided visits to legal institutions and historical landmarks.

Join us for an immersive four-week legal education experience in Seville, Spain—a city where centuries of legal tradition meet contemporary global law. Our 2026 program offers an extraordinary opportunity to earn 6 credits while studying Business Organizations and International Human Rights (Human Trafficking) in one of Europe's most captivating cities.

  • Course Descriptions

    Two Specialized Courses (6 Credits Total)

    Our 2026 program features two intensive 3-credit courses designed to provide substantive knowledge, practical skills, infused with international and comparative perspectives:

    Business Organizations (Law 7930 - Special Topics, 3 credits)

    This intensive course provides comprehensive coverage of business entities in both domestic and international contexts. Students will explore:

    • Corporate formation, governance, and fiduciary duties
    • Agency, partnerships, and limited liability companies
    • Choice of organizational form and limited liability principles
    • Comparative perspectives on business law across jurisdictions
    • Value creation strategies for business lawyers
    • Bar examination preparation topics

    Note: This course satisfies the Business Organizations requirement for FIU Law students.

    International Human Rights: Combating Human Trafficking (Law 6263, 3 credits)

     This course will examine the global fight against human trafficking through multiple legal lenses:

    • International treaties and enforcement mechanisms
    • Comparative analysis of U.S., Spanish, and EU anti-trafficking laws
    • Criminal law, immigration, and labor law intersections
    • Corporate accountability and supply chain compliance
    • Technology's role in both facilitating and combating trafficking

    Victim protection and survivor-centered approaches

    • Schedule: Classes meet Monday through Thursday, ending by 3:30 PM
    • Format: Interactive seminars with guest lectures from University of Seville faculty
    • Activities: Site visits to Spanish courts, legal institutions, and cultural landmarks
    • Language: All instruction in English (optional Spanish activities available)
    • Grading: Subject to upper-level normalization per FIU Law academic regulations

    Who Can Apply?

    • Students who have completed their first year at any ABA-accredited law school
    • Students in good academic standing
    • International students with an appropriate visa status

    • Valid passport for travel to Spain
    • Official law school transcript
    • Personal or phone interview
    • Attendance at mandatory pre-departure orientation (by May 1, 2026)

    Step 1: Online Registration
    Complete the online application at the FIU Study Abroad Portal.

    Step 2: Submit Documents
    Upload all required documents as specified in the application portal.

    Step 3: Pay Registration Fee
    Submit the non-refundable $275 registration fee online through the FIU Law Shop or in person at the International & Graduate Studies Office (RDB 2073).

    Participate in a personal or phone interview with program administrators.

    Pay the mandatory $195 travel insurance fee when prompted in My.FIU

    Additional Steps for Non-FIU Students

    Request and complete the Visiting Student Application from lawregistrar@fiu.edu. Your home institution's registrar must submit the completed form with required documents to lawregistrar@fiu.edu, copying Lisbeth D'Lima (ldlima@fiu.edu).

  • Health and Safety

    FIU Law's 2026 Study Abroad Program in Seville will follow the health and safety precautions set forth by FIU via it's program Panther Protecting Panthers and by the University of Seville. The program will abide by any additional measures that may be issued by the universities and government agencies in Spain and the United States.

    Should the University suspend, change, or make a substitution to a study abroad program based on the best interests of participants, including in cases of emergency or threats to health, safety, or security refunds of costs or fees will be made in accordance with published FIU policies and only if the funds are uncommitted and/or recoverable.

    Payments made directly to an airline, travel agency or any third party are not recoverable by the University and cannot be refunded or reimbursed.
