The Director of the Trial Advocacy Program at FIU College of Law, Professor H.T. Smith, was honored with the Criminal Justice Award presented by the Criminal Courts Committee of the Miami-Dade Bar.
The Miami-Dade Bar Awards Luncheon, held last Friday, celebrated trailblazers in the legal community who exemplify justice, professionalism, pro bono service, and community leadership.
The Criminal Justice Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Miami-Dade County criminal justice system. Professor Smith’s recognition celebrates his decades of leadership in criminal law, advocacy for equity, and his role as an inspiring mentor and model for the legal profession.
As the Miami-Dade Bar noted, “Over the course of his incredible career, he has litigated—brilliantly—countless criminal and civil rights cases. He carries a legacy as a mentor to countless students and practicing lawyers, imbuing them with both trial technique and professional integrity"
Professor Smith is the Founding Director of the Trial Advocacy Program and teaches Advanced Trial Advocacy. He also leads the FIU Law Trial Team.
