Biography
Christopher Kokoruda is an Assistant County Attorney in the Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office, where he is a member of the Public Health Trust section. In this capacity, Professor Kokoruda advises the Public Health Trust on general counsel-type matters relating to a broad range of issues including health care compliance, the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, hospital and hospital program licensure, Medicare and Medicaid, and issues relating to academic medical centers. Prior to joining the County Attorney’s Office, Professor Kokoruda was in private practice where he focused on complex commercial litigation and international arbitration, representing both U.S. and foreign multinational companies.
Professor Kokoruda earned his J.D. summa cum laude and graduated first in his class at FIU Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the FIU Law Review and was the recipient of the College’s Outstanding Contribution for Publications Award. He completed his undergraduate degree in economics, Phi Beta Kappa, at the University of Kansas. While at the University of Kansas, he lectured in economics and received the Domenico Gagliardo Award for outstanding undergraduate work.
