J.D. Students may select between our two available certificate programs. Information and advice about compliance and certificate requirements can be found below.
IP Certificate
Intellectual Property Certificate Requirements
- Students must (a) earn at least 14 credits from the Intellectual Property course list, (b) take at least two courses from the Entrepreneurship course list, and (c) take the Intellectual Property survey course.
- Students must earn a GPA of 2.7 over their law school career, as well as a GPA of 3.0 in their courses on the Intellectual Property course list.
- Students must complete a seminar which requires a 25-page paper based on original research which may be used to satisfy the upper-level writing requirement or an independent study, that includes a research paper on a topic related to Intellectual Property.

A completed application is required. To apply for the certificate, login to the MYFIU student portal via my.fiu.edu. Once logged in, go to Student Tools – E-Forms – College of Law Registrar . Select appropriate certificate.
The Program Directors may approve electives for credit toward the Environmental and Natural Resources Law certification requirements from the extensive offerings of FIU, such as courses from:
- The Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (GSIPA)
- The School of the Environment, Arts, and Society (SEAS)
- The Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work
- The College of Business
