Academic Counseling: If you have questions regarding academic requirements or need assistance securing a leave of absence, contact Associate Dean Ortega Fridman.

Personal or Crisis Intervention:  FIU offers professional counseling and psychological services through its Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), located in the Student Health Services Center.

Student Programming

Orientation: FIU Law hosts a mandatory Orientation for all incoming 1Ls, transfer students, and LL.M. students the week before Fall semester. Orientation materials are posted in early August. Please check back at that time for more information.

Commencement: FIU Law hosts a formal graduation ceremony and reception in May for its fall and spring graduates. Commencement information is posted in March. Please check back at that time for more information.

Lockers: FIU Law offers locker space for its students. The lockers are located on the first floor of RDB, directly adjacent to the student lounge. The locker-rental fee is $40 for the duration of a student’s time at FIU Law. The locker-rental fee is $20 for transfer students. The locker-rental fee includes a lock, which must remain on the locker; personal locks will be removed.  To reserve a locker, visit the Office of Student Services and speak with Zory Hernandes or Myriam Girardo.

Notary: Notary services are provided to FIU Law students free of charge. To make an appointment for notary services, see Gori Rodriguez in the Dean’s office, or contact her at

Disability Resource Center Liaison: FIU Law provides accommodations to its students in conjunction with FIU’s Disability Resource Center. Students in need of accommodations during the academic year for a documented physical or learning disability must self-identify. The first step in receiving accommodations is to register with the Disability Resource Center (, which is located at 11200 S.W. 8 Street GC 190 or call 305.348.3532/voice, 305.348.3850/fax, 800.955- 8771/TDD. Even though you may have registered while you were an FIU undergraduate/graduate, you must re-register to receive accommodations for law school. Accommodations are provided on an individual basis.
