Professor H.T. Smith served on a panel at the University of Miami’s 11th Annual Scholarship Donor Recognition Luncheon.  Professor Smith’s panel discussed the powerful impact that philanthropy plays in higher education and the fulfilling experience of helping talented students by opening the vaults of educational opportunity through scholarships, fellowships, and other types of financial aid.  Professor Smith shared his personal story of being born in a shotgun shack in Overtown, and later, upon his return from serving as a combat officer in Viet Nam, using the G.I. Bill and scholarships to attend the University of Miami School of Law, in its first class admitting Black students. Professor Smith is the Founding Director of the FIU Law Trial Advocacy Program.  He teaches Advanced Trial Advocacy and Trial Advocacy.
