Professor M.C. Mirow joined scholars from around the world earlier this month in Fiskars, Finland, at a workshop on The Influence of Colonies on Commercial Law and Procedure. He presented the paper “Scots Traders and Spanish Law in East Florida.”  The conference was hosted by the University of Helsinki and supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.

“I was so happy to share my research with this group of international scholars.  People often forget about Florida’s Spanish past, and there was a lot of interest in the little-known colonial legal history of Florida,” said Mirow, a founding faculty member of the College of Law.  Mirow is serving as a MacCormick Fellow at Edinburgh Law School, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, this year.  He is a member of the Florida bar.
