Professor Megan A. Fairlie has recently returned from the University of Amsterdam where she had the honor of participating as an “esteemed opponent” in (now Dr.) Karel De Meester’s oral defense of his Ph.D. thesis. The thesis, which Professor Fairlie and the remaining members of the Doctorate Committee evaluated over the summer months, focused on the investigation phase of international criminal procedure. The oral defense was a part of a public ceremony that began with questioning from Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), who also served as a member of the Doctorate Committee.
