Congratulations to the FIU Law Moot Court Team for placing as a semi-finalist at The Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition.

Sam Basch, Diana Rafael, and Daniel Fors of the FIU Law Moot Court Team competed at the Eighth Billings, Exum & Frye National Moot Court Competition at Elon University Law School in Greensboro, North Carolina on October 20 & 21, 2017.

21 teams competed including University of Georgia, Georgetown University College of Law, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and Texas Tech University College of Law.

The team advanced to the quarterfinals as the 8th seed after winning a tie-breaker over several 2-1 teams. In the quarters, our team took the offensive and decided to argue off-brief after winning the coin toss to put the #1 overall seed off-brief as well. As petitioner, the strategy paid off, and our team upset the overall #1 seed to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, after a very evenly matched round, we lost by 0.5% to the eventual national champions from the University of Georgia.

We are happy to have you bring home FIU Law’s first national semi-finalist plaque since 2014.
