The FIU Board of Appellate Advocates extends a big congratulations to our ABA Team for proudly representing FIU Law on the National Stage! Thank you Patrick Brady, Jordan Esteban, Julio Ayala, Raul Marrero, Jason Anon, and Sonny Romano for all of your hard work.

Raul Marrero, Jason Anon, and Sonny Romano made it the Semifinals! Congratulations on your outstanding brief score and oral argument rounds!

The team members traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with Professor Rima Mullins to represent FIU Law in this year’s ABA Regional Competition. FIU Law was one of 17 schools competing, along with Penn State, University of Alabama, the University of Georgia, and Arizona State University to name a few.

Both teams dominated the preliminary rounds, with Patrick Brady, Julio Ayala, and Jordan Esteban defeating the University of Georgia outright and winning their oral argument against Southern Illinois. Raul Marrero, Jason Anon, and Sonny Romano went 3-0 in the preliminary rounds and easily advanced to the quarterfinals where they defeated the University of Georgia  and secured a spot in the semifinals where they were up against Southern Illinois.

In a close decision, FIU missed advancing to the championship round after an impressive performance by our advocates. In addition to the teams’ written and oral advocacy success, Jason Anon received a top 10 oralist award.

Special thanks to Professors Klion, Loeb, Wasserman, Correoso, Carpenter, Delionado, and Schrier for helping coach/judge team members and providing additional resources as the team prepared for the competition! In addition, the team received help from outside the FIU community from Professor Reich, an adjunct at FIU Law.

Finally, a huge thank you goes out to Professor Mullins for her dedication and time commitment to the FIU Board of Appellate Advocates, and in particular to the ABA Teams.  Since November, Professor Mullins has spent countless hour and days supporting the ABA Teams. We appreciate all of your time and hard work!

Congratulations ABA Teams! This was a team effort, and this is a team success. You should all be proud of the work that you put in to make FIU Law Moot Court a Nationally recognized Moot Court Team!

FIU Law’s Moot Court Program emphasizes the development of brief-writing and oral-advocacy through state, regional, national, and international competitions.

Students interested in participating in Moot Court must be either a 2L full-time student or 3L part-time student. To be eligible for the Moot Court Team, students must take a two-credit pass/fail course called “Advanced Appellate Advocacy” in the fall of their 2L year (or 3L year for part-time students).
