The beautiful Coral Gables Museum was transformed into Miami’s version of Monte Carlo, as the FIU Law Alumni Association hosted its first-ever Casino Night fundraiser.

With the support of presenting sponsor Wicker Smith, P.A., and more than 20 additional sponsors—many of them FIU Law alumni firms—the event raised more than $20,000 for the FIU Law Legal Clinics. The Association also donated $3,000 to the Miami-Dade Family Learning Partnership Legal Up! Program, which partnered with the Association for the event.

Like everyone who attended, FIU Law Alumni Association President, Robert Scavone Jr, was over the moon about the event. “So much hard work went into planning and executing the event.” he shared. “We spent over six months raising money and making sure every detail was covered. Everyone who I spoke to at the event said it was a spectacular evening.”

Indeed it was.

It didn’t seem to matter who was or wasn’t winning; everyone appeared to be having a great time. For FIU Law Development Director, Jacob Manaloor whose luck was long at the poker table commented, “the mood was fun and the energy was electric throughout the night. The fact that the money raised went to two great programs made the evening all the more special.”

“We wanted to raise money and make sure everyone had a great time,” Scavone Jr. added. “We accomplished our goals and laid the ground work so that the event could become an annual alumni fundraiser. I am confident there will be a Casino Night II next year.”

FIU Law Dean R. Alexander Acosta also shared his thoughts on the night’s success. “I am very proud of the alumni who worked on this, the alumni firms who helped to make this night possible and the outpouring of support from old friends and new,” he shared.
