Miriam Harmatz is a senior health law attorney at Florida Legal Services and an adjunct professor in the Health Law Clinic at Florida International University College of Law. As a legal services lawyer, Miriam has worked on expanding access to health care – both in Miami and statewide – for the last 30 years. These efforts include leading local coalitions in addressing barriers to the safety net and serving as lead counsel on Medicaid federal court cases resulting in state wide systemic relief for beneficiaries.
Ms. Harmatz was awarded the Florida Bar Foundation’s biennial award for significant impact work in 2006 and the Foundation’s 2013 Children’s Advocacy Award. She also received the South Florida Daily Business Review’s Most Effective Lawyer Award in 2007 for class actions and in 2010 for public interest. She received her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1979 and her B.A. from Stanford University in 1975, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
