Browse and Search Legal News by Publisher

The Legal News content category is distinct from News in an important way—it carries content from some of the most valuable sources in the legal industry. When you click into Legal News from the Explore Content pod:

You can browse this content by publisher. When you click on a publisher, such as ALM Media: You will see a listing of titles and that the filter has been narrowed to that publisher.

One click from within a full-text case brings you greater insight into its precedential value and noteworthy subsequent treatment. The new Reason for Shepard’s Signal indicators feature shows you the citing passage that had the strongest influence on the Shepard’s Signal indicator.

Click the Reason for Shepard’s Signal? link to view this top citing passage. You don’t leave your full-text case. This feature is initially available for cases dated after March 2003 in all jurisdictions.

Get more insights faster from Shepard’s reports

Finding and using good law gets even easier with these Shepard’s Citations Service enhancements.

  •  Use the Search Within Results box available in the left navigation bar to search by segments (i.e., search specific document parts, e.g., ATTORNEY, CITE, COURT, HEADNOTES, WRITTENBY, etc.).
  • Use the Narrow By filter to focus your results to reported or unreported citing cases or filter to court documents, specifically Briefs, Motions and Pleadings.

Find needed content types faster as you review results

You will see the three most-accessed content categories on your results screen. Select a displayed category or expand to the full list of categories by clicking Show more.

Full-text cases include a direct link to case references

Select the new Find references to this case link in the About This Document box in the right-hand margin of your full-text case (see right). Move to a list of all available documents that refer to the case you’re viewing.

Shepard’s BriefCheck: Microsoft Excel and more

Use the newest Shepard’s BriefCheck and QuoteCheck enhancements to analyze memoranda and other arguments more efficiently:

  •  Export BriefCheck results to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet where you can filter and sort citing references to aid your analysis
  • Restrict a BriefCheck analysis from a point in time forward (dates starting with August 19, 2016) to examine just the citing references added to a document since that date, or just those from a specific decision date or later
  • And the Shepard’s QuoteCheck feature now supports text analysis of statutes and administrative codes, for all-important interpretation of legislative and regulatory intent
