SEC ALJ Enforcement Analytics

The new Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) Administrative Law Judge (“ALJ”) Enforcement Analytics page is now live on the Bloomberg Law: Securities Practice Center. This tool provides analysis of ALJ initial decisions in litigated SEC enforcement actions. It depicts graphs of enforcement action trends over the last four years, focusing on some of the more prevalent issues in 2015 and 2016, appealed decisions trends from 2013-2016, and trends in civil penalties. Use this tool to help predict the likely outcomes for clients in similar situations.

CFPB Enforcement Analytics Page

A new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Enforcement Analytics page is now live on the Bloomberg Law Banking & Finance Practice Center and on Bloomberg Law: Banking. This page will be updated as new trends emerge, looking back at enforcement action trends over the first half of 2016. Use this page to understand where the CFPB is focusing its attention to help determine what types of issues clients should be concerned about.

Quarterly M&A and IPO Market Updates

A Quarterly M&A Market Update page is now live on Bloomberg Law and Bloomberg Law: Corporate Transactions. The page provides quarterly analyses of the M&A market for U.S. targets by highlighting trends and other points of interest. Our analysis includes examination of trends by market size, which we define as “Mid-Market” (Deals from $100M to $1B), “Large Market” (Deals from $1B to $10B) and “Mega Deals” (Deals over $10B). Use this tool to follow trends in the U.S. M&A market. A corresponding page covering IPO Market updates, has been updated to reflect trends through the first half of 2016.

Expansion of Smart Code Functionality to Tennessee Laws and Regulations

Bloomberg Law’s Smart Code functionality has been expanded to Tennessee Laws and Regulations. You can now pull up a Tennessee statute or regulation and click on the Smart Code tab located along the top of the page to quickly view extracts of court opinions discussing the provision they are researching. This feature allows users to filter the relevant extracts by Keyword, Date, Court, or Topic to easily identify the most useful results. Smart Code uses machine learning to assign a strength of discussion score on a sliding scale from “weak” to “strong”, enabling users to focus on the legal discussions most likely to inform their research.

The specific codes and regulations where Smart Code has been added include:

  • Tennessee Code
  • Tennessee Court Rules
  • Tennessee Administrative Code

With the addition of Tennessee, Smart Code is now available for 22 states and the District of Columbia, as well as various collections of federal statutes, rules, and regulations.

Bloomberg Law Docket Enhancements

  • Exporting Search Results – Search results can now be exported to a CSV spreadsheet with the data separated into columns such as URL, Court, judge, docket number, attorney, party, party role, etc.
  • Docket Administrator Enhancement – users of the Docket Administrator functionality can now download all of the firm’s alert records into a single CSV spreadsheet.
  • Docket Entry Filters – A filter on docket sheets based on filing type has been released for civil dockets in the Northern District of Illinois. This feature is now available on civil dockets in the Southern & Eastern District of New York and the Northern District of Illinois.

A new 2016 Cumulative Supplement to Managed Care Litigation, Second Edition is now available. The new supplement adds discussions of:
