Joseph Ankus

Joseph Ankus graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude, with a concentration in Communication Systems and a minor from the Wharton School in Marketing. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Law, with honors, and was a Senior Editor of the Florida Law Review. Professor Ankus joined the FIU Law Juris Master faculty in 2016.

A legal search consultant since 1991, Professor Ankus also was an associate with two of the nation’s largest law firms – Dechert in Philadelphia and Holland & Knight in Miami. From 2005-2016 he served as the Executive Director of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (NALSC), which is comprised of approximately 200 legal recruiting firms across the nation. Prior to being selected as Executive Director, he was a long-standing NALSC Board Member and Past Chair of its Ethics Committee.

In 2018, due to the increasing need to raise awareness about attorney mental health, Professor Ankus joined the Florida Bar’s Special Committee for Mental Health & Wellness and now serves as a nationally certified Mental Health First Aid instructor for law schools, law firms, and a leading lawyer assistance program.

Professor Ankus was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida and enjoys fishing, poker, coin collecting, and travel.
