FIU Law alumna Nicole Grimal Helmstetter (J.D. ’10) has joined Jones Walker LLP, one of the largest law firms in the United States, as special counsel in the Litigation Practice Group and a member of the bankruptcy and restructuring team in the firm’s growing Miami office.

Nicole is a business bankruptcy attorney with extensive experience representing parties on all sides of insolvency matters involving distressed businesses, assets, and portfolios. Her comprehensive approach to these cases has already earned her recognition from the American Bankruptcy Institute as a “40 Under 40” honoree and an “Up and Coming” designation from Chambers USA.

As a lifelong Miami resident, she brings an in-depth understanding of the local business landscape and the unique opportunities and challenges that South Florida regional businesses and their creditors face in a rapidly changing market. Although centered in Florida, her practice is national in scope. She routinely represents midsize and regional businesses, lenders, and creditors in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 proceedings.

Renowned for her ability to help businesses downsize while remaining operational, she also has a strong track record of negotiating mutually beneficial out-of-court workouts that allow parties to avoid bankruptcy altogether.

Joining Jones Walker allows her to take her practice to the national stage while further strengthening her presence in South Florida, Nicole said. “I am looking forward to working with the firm’s talented bankruptcy team on complex insolvency matters across the country.”
