Professor Ediberto Román, a renowned expert in immigration law and xenophobia studies at FIU College of Law, was recently featured in a POLITICO article analyzing the rising intensity of anti-immigrant rhetoric in the current political climate. The article, titled “We Watched 20 Trump Rallies. His Racist, Anti-Immigrant Messaging is Getting Darker,” delves into former President Donald Trump’s increasing use of inflammatory language targeting migrants and minority communities.
In the article, Román draws a historical connection between the former president’s rhetoric and past injustices, highlighting how demonizing marginalized groups has led to catastrophic consequences in U.S. history. “Efforts to blame outsiders, a politically voiceless group, which Trump is an expert at doing, has led to atrocities in the United States — everything from Japanese internment to Operation Wetback,” Román explained.
