On Friday November 4th, FIU Law joined forces with the International Bar Association’s (IBA) Academic and Professional Development Committee to host a conference titled “Law, Business and Innovation: Educating for Tomorrow”. The conference featured speakers from different parts of the world and two distinguished keynote speakers, Dave Clark CDO of Barbri Global and Miguel Zaldivar, Jr. CEO of Hogan Lovells. Dean Antony Page opened the day with a speech that highlighted FIU’s commitment to a high-quality legal education that is innovative and globalized. Both keynote speakers shared their views about innovation in their organizations and the legal profession in general and praised FIU Law both for its success in educating the highest performing law students and for the school’s achievements regarding inclusiveness and diversity. The rest of the program featured panels that surveyed the contemporary landscape of innovation and the law, the impact of new delivery models on the provision of legal services, innovations in legal education, and a workshop on the rule of law. This unique program was designed by conference co-chairs Victoria Cromwell and Chris Howard, and FIU Law’s Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Global Engagement Manuel A. Gómez. The impeccable execution of the program was led by Program Manager Lisbeth D’Lima.

The conference was also an opportunity for FIU Law students to learn, engage and share their views with the speakers and other participants throughout the day. Overall, this event was a great success, and a unique way to cap the 2022 IBA Congress, which brought several thousands of lawyers from all over the world to Miami for a week.
