After successfully competing in Florida International University College of Law’s Intramural Competition, Adrienne Kanter, Marygrace Longoria, Jonathan Valdes Rosado, and Susannah Nesmith were selected to represent our school at the E. Earle Zehmer National Moot Court Competition. The competition took place in Orlando, Florida, with the problem focusing on workers’ compensation law. All four students advanced to the quarterfinals, which took place on August 21st and 22nd.

The competitors worked for almost two months leading up to the competition to research, write, and edit their briefs. Then, the four students practiced their oral arguments for several more weeks with Moot Court team members and Faculty Advisor and Professor, Ila Klion.

“As soon as we started researching for our brief, [my teammate] told me she wanted to win ‘Best Brief.’ That was the goal,” said Adrienne Kanter. And the work paid off – Marygrace and Adrienne received the Best Brief Award at the competition, beating out seventeen schools from around the country.

“Leading up to the competition, [my teammates] and I practiced every day and researched minute issues up until the day before. We worked so hard and are so proud to see it all pay off,” Marygrace Longoria adds.

The FIU Law Moot Court Team is extremely proud of both teams, and the teamwork that made it all possible. Moot Court President Claire Snell remarks, “Thank you to everyone who helped both teams prepare for the competition. The dedication and support we have for each other is what makes us so successful, and I can’t wait to see what our team members have in store next!”
