In late January, news coverage of U.S. video game retailer GameStop Corp surged above that for tech giants Tesla and Apple. The surge followed heavy chatter in social media forums that sent its price up 20-fold. The move triggered significant short-covering by hedge funds, while trading platform Robin Hood had to restrict trading on popular stocks on social media, given the volatile market conditions.

Join Bloomberg for Education to learn about the Bloomberg tools that allow you to monitor trending stocks in social media platforms without reading thousands of tweets yourself. Then use this data to extract insight and analyze short interest, valuation, and key financial metrics.

In this presentation, we will cover how to

– Use Bloomberg news tools to spot trending stocks and topics in social media

– See who leads the conversation: social media vs. news organizations

– Spot stocks often mentioned by social media or news

– Review the difference between news themes and headline news

– Chart news overtime on single security to understand what moves a company

– Explore news themes on companies, commodities, and key topics

– Examine the artificial intelligence behind the headlines

This free webinar is intended for students and faculty. Please feel free to share this invitation with others in your community.

The presentation will be recorded. If you cannot attend but are interested in the content, you may register and watch the link on-demand anytime afterward.
