Professor H. Scott Fingerhut recently moderated an expert panel on the authenticity and admissibility of social media and digital evidence at Hot Topics in Evidence 2020.

Held virtually, and co-sponsored by The Florida Bar Criminal Law Section and Code & Rules of Evidence Committee, Professor Fingerhut’s seminar panel featured attorneys Michal Meiler and Steven Teppler, along with Judge Samantha L. Ward of Florida’s Thirteenth Judicial Circuit.

The group discussed Facebook, Instagram, cell phone, and other digitally created and electronically stored information, hearsay and the consideration of computers as declarants, the Reply Letter and Ancient Document Doctrines, and the challenges of establishing authenticity given evidentiary alterability,

Professor Fingerhut is Assistant Director of the FIU Law Trial Advocacy Program.  He teaches Trial Advocacy, Pretrial Practice, and Criminal Procedure.

Professor Fingerhut also serves as CLE Chair of the Criminal Law Section of The Florida Bar and is a member of the Bar’s Code & Rules of Evidence Committee.
