FIU Law has pledged support to the American Bar Association‘s Well-Being Pledge that supports lawyer well-being and addresses the profession’s troubling rates of alcohol and other substance-use disorders, as well as mental health issues.

According to the ABA, The Working Group to Advance Well-Being in the Legal Profession was formed in September 2017 at the request of Past-President Hilarie Bass and continued to operate under Immediate Past-President Bob Carlson’s leadership. The Working Group was created to examine and make recommendations regarding the current state of attorney mental health and substance use issues with an emphasis on helping legal employers support healthy work environments. Following the conclusion of the Working Group’s term in 2019, its initiatives and projects, including the Well-Being Pledge Campaign transitioned to the leadership of the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs.
