Congratulations to Trial Team Alumna, Mamie Joeveer ’08, on her promotion to partner at AXS Law Group in Wynwood.

While here at school, Mamie was a proud member of our champion Trial Team, participating in the 2006 Hon. E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition, (then) sponsored by The Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.  With Mamie on board, we advanced all the way to the semi-final round.  [Note:  The Zehmer competition is now sponsored by the Florida Justice Association, which our Trial Team has won back-to-back, in 2016 and 2017.]

Mamie began her professional career serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps, where she was a Public Affairs Officer, rose to the rank of Captain, and engaged in high-level assignments at the Pentagon in Kenya and at the United Nations Mission in Haiti.

Mamie then transitioned to journalism as a contributor to the Miami Herald and Forbes Magazine covering business and entertainment, while also producing a national television series for NBCUniversal in New York.

After graduating FIU Law, Mamie’s legal career began as a Broward County Assistant Public Defender, where she became a trial lawyer, before she joined the Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment Group at Hogan Lovells in Miami, where she advised clients on issues including Medicaid managed-care, contract disputes, and trademark and corporate governance.

“The best advice I have ever received,” Mamie said, “is to lead from the front, and that a strong belief in myself will always keep me on solid ground.”

Mamie has appeared as a military and legal analyst on MSNBC and contributes to Diversity & The Bar Magazine, produced by the National Minority Corporate Counsel Association.

Currently she also serves on the Board of Directors for the Miami City Ballet and as Vice Chair of the Bar’s Media & Communications Law Committee.

Mamie’s promotion to partner was featured in the Miami Herald.  Her “Mover’s  Spotlight” may be found here.

Way to go, Mamie!  You continue to make us proud.
