The African Court Research Initiative (ACRI), an academic research project initiated by Professor Charles C. Jalloh and funded by the Open Society Foundations, hosted a 30 person expert roundtable in The Hague, Netherlands on Monday, November 21, 2016. The conference, which took place at The Hague Institute for Global Justice with the theme of Africa and the International Criminal Court: The Way Forward, brought together renowned scholars and practitioners to discuss current challenges facing the permanent world criminal court. The participants were senior officials from the International Criminal Court (ICC), including the Office of the Prosecutor, the Presidency and the Registry, who engaged with the Directorate of Legal Affairs of the African Union Commission concerning African government concerns about the work of the global penal court. These include state cooperation with the ICC, complementary as well as the recent withdrawal of three African states from the multilateral treaty establishing the ICC.
