FIU Law Alumni Association President-Elect Olivia C. Rodriguez ’10, has been re-elected to serve another two-year term as Board of Director for the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA). Serving alongside her, is fellow alumna Maria D. Garcia ’08 who has one year remaining on her term.

“It is a great honor to be re-elected to the Board of Directors,” Rodriguez exclaimed. “As a young lawyer, I know the importance of building relationships and maintaining an active presence in our community.”

Since 1974, CABA has endeavored to promote equality of its members; increase diversity in the judiciary and legal community; serve the public interest by increasing awareness to the study of jurisprudence; foster respect for the law, among others. For Rodriguez, CABA’s Pro Bono Project, which helps to increase awareness and raise funds to provide equal access and adequate representation to minorities, is the initiative she holds “near to her heart.”

“I am very proud to have chaired this year’s Art in the Tropics event, which was a huge success and helped to raise thousands of dollars for the Pro Bono Project – dollars that will help provide adequate representation to those less fortunate in our community,” she shared.

Rodriguez believes her time at FIU Law inspired her to look beyond being ‘just a lawyer.’

“I truly believe that FIU Law instilled in me the value of service. There is a great need for volunteer lawyers in our community and non-profit organizations, like CABA, who provide the opportunity to make a difference. I am forever grateful to FIU Law for my legal education, which I now use to give back to our community.”

During her first term on the board, Rodriguez also served as chair of CABA’s Young Lawyers Committee and CABA’s 5K Committee.
